Tomintoul Aged 10 Years Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 40% Age: 10 Years Old Country: Scotland
Tomintoul (pronounced “Tom-in-to’owl”) distillery (established in 1964) is built in the highest village in the highlands of Scotland and can sometimes be very hard to access due to the road being blocked with snow and ice in the winter. However hard it is to get here the storage facilities at Tomintoul are huge and boast a warehouse that can accomodate ten million litres of malt within the grounds. The water source is the local Ballantruan Spring and with this water they produce about 3,000,000 litres of spirit annually. The current owners are Angus Dundee plc and the distillery has four stills to produce the spirit. This spirit is mainly used and a very valuable contribution to Whyte and MacKay’s blends. Did you know, Tomintoul entered the Guinness Book of Records by producing the largest bottle of whisky in the world at 105.3 litres?
The Tomintoul 10 Year Old is an excellent introduction to the world of Speyside single malts. It embodies the distillery’s reputation for crafting gentle and approachable whiskies with a focus on smoothness and balance. This expression is matured for 10 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks, which impart flavours of vanilla, honey, and a subtle spice. The result is a whisky that is both delicate and flavourful, showcasing the distillery’s signature fruitiness and gentle character.
This 10-year-old expression is bottled at 40% alc/vol, making it a versatile dram that can be enjoyed neat, with a splash of water, or in cocktails. It’s also non-chill filtered, which helps preserve the whisky’s natural flavours and texture.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose is fresh and inviting, with a delicate balance of fruit and sweetness. Notes of green apple, pear, and honeydew melon mingle with a subtle hint of citrus. A touch of vanilla and oak adds depth and complexity.
Palate: The palate is smooth and creamy, with flavours of honey, vanilla, and a subtle nuttiness. The fruit notes from the nose carry through, complemented by a gentle spice and a hint of toasted malt.
Finish: The finish is medium-long and satisfying, with the sweetness and spice notes lingering. A subtle oakiness and a touch of dried fruit provide a balanced conclusion.
The Tomintoul 10 Year Old is a whisky that offers a delightful introduction to the gentle and approachable style of Speyside single malts. It’s a versatile and enjoyable dram that is perfect for both new whisky drinkers and seasoned enthusiasts.

Bought this one after reading about a tasting on the site. What a wee cracker. This will now be a regular go to bottle in my collection also. Excellent value for money and punching well above its age.

I think this is 3.5 stars for me. Loved the mouth feel, I think I even detected a hint of coffee… but the advertising is right, it is a gentle dram, the finish was shorter than expected. It didn’t quite take me on a journey, but overall, a good approachable whisky.
