Tomintoul Peaty Tang Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Volume: 700ml ABV: 40% Age: No Age Statement Country: Scotland
Tomintoul (pronounced “Tom-in-to’owl”) distillery is built in the highest village in the highlands of Scotland and can sometimes be very hard to access due to the road being blocked with snow and ice in the winter. However hard it is to get here the storage facilities at Tomintoul are huge and boast a warehouse that can accomodate ten million litres of malt within the grounds. The water source is the local Ballantruan Spring and with this water they produce about 3,000,000 litres of spirit annually. The current owners are Angus Dundee plc and the distillery has four stills to produce the spirit. This spirit is mainly used and a very valuable contribution to Whyte and MacKay’s blends.
Did you know, Tomintoul entered the Guinness Book of Records by producing the largest bottle of whisky in the world at 105.3 litres?
Pure ingredients and the natural environment add to smooth and mellow character of this award-winning Tomintoul Speyside Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky, “the gentle dram”. Tomintoul “With A Peaty Tang” has been made with peated malt barley to give it a deep smoky flavour. This makes “Peaty Tang” very unusual, most distilleries in the Speyside region do not use peat.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Heathery smoke, earthy peat, soft oak and creamy caramel.
Palate: Creamy peaty earthiness, cereals, toasted oak, orchard fruits.
Gentle ‘Peat-reek’ flavours expected from a Islay whisky but with a hint of malty nuttiness and fruity sweetness, as you would expect from a Speyside whisky
Finish: The creamy smoke lingers, white pepper and herbal.
